Alicia Z. Russell Center for Assessment and Learning

Pine Point educates the whole child, values diverse experiences, and acknowledges that excellence comes in many forms.  Education must be focused on learning, and all children learn differently.  Pine Point recognizes that both remediation  and acceleration require good information about the learner as well as a dynamic partnership among learner, teacher and parent.

The Alicia Z. Russell Center for Assessment and Learning (CAL) supports the School’s mission as a resource for students, teachers and parents to understand how individuals learn best in order to provide the optimal environment for academic success and social and emotional well-being.  CAL serves as a resource for both Pine Point and the larger community.  Clinicians work directly with students and consult with teachers and parents.

The CAL team consists of a school psychologist, a learning specialist, two speech and language pathologists, a math resource person, and an administrative director.  Initial screenings are completed by clinicians as part of the Pine Point program when classroom teachers feel more information is need to tailor a program for a child.  Results are then shared with the classroom teachers and a plan of action is discussed and implemented.  The team meets regularly with the classroom teacher to assess the individual’s progress during intervention.

Full psycho-educational evaluations and speech and language evaluations are available to Pine Point families and clients outside of the PPS community.   Tutoring services are also available through the Center.

Stanford Math (EPGY)

The School has a partnership with Stanford University to provide an accelerated math program for qualifying individuals.  Students qualify for EPGY by meeting Pine Point's criteria for excellence in mathematical thinking and computation, and maturation. Students, after being identified by test scores (DST) and teacher recommendation, must then score three standard deviations above the norm in the CMAT or for his or her respective grade.  For more information contact Diana Owen.
