Learning

Learning at Pine Point School is robust and relevant.  From preschool 3 through ninth grade, the Pine Point learning community is energized by an innovative spirit and an unwavering commitment to educate the whole child.  English Literacy is stressed in the early grades and extended and enhanced in the upper grades.  Our carefully blended English program emphasizes both expository and creative writing, opportunities for public oration, the study of classical and contemporary literature, and performance-based literary analysis requirements.  Our Mathematics program stresses both mathematical fluency and applied problem solving skills.  Pine Point School features opportunities to differentiate and accelerate at all grade levels through our partnership with Stanford University’s Education Program for Gifted YouthScience is a part of every classroom experience, each with abundant field experiences as well. Two well equipped laboratories, a greenhouse, a research boat, an observatory, and abundant conservation land including a pond are all used regularly for instruction. Science partnerships abound.  Social Studies are perhaps best revealed though our award winning service learning program and extensive partnerships.  World Language classes begin in kindergarten where families choose between French and Spanish.  Latin is introduced in grade 6. After school classes in Mandarin Chinese are also available.  The Fine Arts are integral to an education at Pine Point.  All students study dance, music, and the visual arts at each grade level.  Major musical productions and seasonal arts programs are presented annually.  A partnership with Calvary Music School and after school class offerings in the arts further enriches the lives of our children.  Physical Education and athletics round out our curriculum for the whole child and emphasize a balance between the sound mind and sound body.  After school activities are offered for students in grades 4 and 5 and interscholastic competition is available for grades 6-9.

Our entire program of study is continually assessed by department chairs through our curriculum mapping within each discipline.  Our Director of Studies oversees the entire curriculum in concert with faculty.
